Bio
Cut Loose knows how to treat an audience. Founded in part on the idea that there are far too many bands playing songs like “Brick House” at any given time, the band’s mission is to play the songs people love, but would never expect. This four-piece can tackle a modern dance staple like Lady Gaga's “Poker Face,” then turn on a dime to rock a note-perfect rendition of Van Halen’s “Panama” without breaking a sweat. With repertoire from the ’70s ’80s ’90s and 2000s, and a group of musicians who enjoy the challenge of advanced material, the possibilities are endless.
Cut Loose was formed from the ashes of San Francisco synth-rock outfit Squaretape, which disbanded in 2007 after playing shows with nationally recognized artists like Cracker, Storm Large, Banyan, and the Tubes. Drummer Peter Thomas and bassist Brian Fox provide a world-class rhythm section, supporting the tasteful shred licks of lead guitarist Dan Nervo and the blistering bluesy vocals of frontman Dan Apczynski. This particular cast of musicians also brings an eclectic mix of musical experiences to the table that makes the unit that much more unique. Individually they have toured with Interscope artist Pseudopod, contributed to Guitar Hero:Van Halen, and even interviewed rock royalty like Dave Matthews and U2's Adam Clayton for national publications. And when they aren’t collectively performing with Cut Loose, you can also catch these guys backing up a host of other Bay Area talent such as Kirk Hamilton, The Estate, Dynamic, Lucid Mechanism, and The Nick Peck Organ Trio.
But while the band’s musical prowess is immediately evident, the Cut Loose may be most remarkable for their ability to throw a party—bar nights, weddings, birthdays, corporate events, bar/bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, grand openings, and just about anything else in between.
